Degrassi Junior High
The Degrassi series is a dramatic and funny series that takes place in an unnamed North american city. It features a group of characters of diverse social and ethnic backgrounds who go through the daily trial and tribulations of adolescent life from puberty to pimples to sexual issues to death and peer pressure. The show spans 3 series: Kids of Degrassi Street (1979-1985), Degrassi Junior High, (1986-1989) and Degrassi High (1989-1991) filmed in Riverdale, a neighbourhood near downtown Toronto, Canada, the show is a realistic portrayel of teenage life.
The producers of the show were Linda Schuyler and Kit Hood of Playing With Time, IONC (Now Epitome Pictures INC)
The TV series, which was shot entirely on film was directed by Kit Hood and most episodes were written by Yan Moore. Supervising the production was Sari Friedland. The show's realism came from the actors who played them because much of their stages in development was captured on film, so many of their real life adolescent issues were brought up on the episodes so the issues seemed more real and convincing. The Degrassi series ended in 1992 with a 6 part documentary called Degrassi Talks and a TV movie of the week called School's Out.
