Incredible Hulk
It seems there has been three different animated versions of the Hulk from the 60s, the 80s and the 90s. These screen captures are from the 80s version, but for me, the definitive version was always the TV series, which ironically strays the furthest from the original comic strip. The TV series features David Banner (Bill Bixby), a scientist, researching the extra strength that humans sometimes gain in situations of extreme stress. After theorising that these displays of extreme strength occured when gamma radiation from the sun was particularly high, David bombards himself with gamma rays. The experiment results in Davids transformation into the Hulk (bodybuilder Lou Ferringo) in times of stress. A fire in Davids lab leads to the death of his research partner, and everyones belief that David too, is dead. The series features the ongoing investigations of a reporter - Jack McGee - who tries to prove that the Hulk was reponsible for the deaths at the lab.
The origin of the Hulk in the 80s cartoon is somewhat different, and true to the comic. David is working at a secret US army base, experimenting with a 'Gamma Bomb' During the countdown to launch, a spaceship appears, and the airforce are sent out to shoot it down. Before the space ship is destroyed, a pod is ejected and .... well, actually I didn't watch the rest - it's way too far fetched :-)
